Samsung Galaxy Round

Samsung's round screen is really awesome, but is it really worth it?  Samsung's curved smartphone has generated a lot of buzz but not a lot of reasons to buy it -- other than the novelty effect.

The South Korean electronics giant late Tuesday unveiled the Galaxy Round, a smartphone similar to the Galaxy Note 3 but with a lengthwise dip in the middle. That dip forms a curve sort of like a smile or a

A new electrified porsche 914

Owner: Mark Brems
The mid-engined, targa-topped 914 is a car that sits atop the wish lists of very few Porschephiles, if any at all. The 914 pictured here, however, could change that.
Spotted in Los Angeles on 31 August: an electrified 914 sipping some juice at a public charging station. The car started life as a 1974 Porsche 914 1.8 – complete with a Volkswagen-sourced 85hp flat-four engine. Owner Mark Brems, who purchased his prize on eBay for $1,250 and performed the $18,000 EV conversion himself, claims that the modified car, although 266lbs heavier than stock, maintains the nimble

Apple gears up for iWatch battle

Although the company has yet to offer any official confirmation, Apple is now believed to have up to 50 employees working on solving the challenges posed by developing an iWatch.
The FT reported that Apple “has embarked on a hiring spree to tackle design problems” with the product, which is likely to be the first entirely new kind of device it launches since the death of co-founder Steve Jobs.
Google, Samsung and Dell have all expressed interest in developing watches, and dedicated companies such as Pebble have also seen widespread consumer enthusiasm and raised significant funds for their own projects.

BlackBerry Q5 review

BlackBerry’s Q5 is the first mid-priced phone from the company using the new BB10 operating system. It’s a return to what’s become the company’s core market – affordable, rugged and with a keyboard.
Indeed, anyone familiar with BlackBerry’s usual work will probably be impressed with the Q5 initially – build quality is clearly much improved, at least in the test units sent to journalists, and the device, even though it’s all plastic, is a decent size that still isn’t too big. It doesn’t feel as premium as the more expensive Q10, with its Kevlar-like back, but this is a slightly cheaper device, starting at around £25 per month.

Beats Executive headphones review

Beloved of Premier League footballers, Beats headphones, with their distinctive red wires, have become a familiar sight on the streets. The hip-hop cache provided by their creator, Dr Dre, has been a big part of that success.
With Beats Executive though, the brand is targeting an older, less flashy market. They are aimed squarely at the frequent flyer, corporate crowd and offer a serious challenge to Bose's QuietComfort range by incorporating active noise-cancelling electronics.
Aesthetically, Beats Executive are a great success. The shiny plastics and garish branding of ordinary Beats headphones are gone, replaced by subtlety and an all-over quality feel. There's no mention of Dr Dre anywhere.
All brushed aluminium and soft leather, they look and feel tailored for globe-trotting executives. The materials used mean this is not a light headset, but enough care has been taken with the padding and adjustability that once you have them on it's easy to drift off to music on a long haul flight, or settle in for a movie in relative seclusion without feeling weighed down.
The noise cancelling, powered by two AAA batteries, is excellent, and as good as that offered by Bose. It can be turned on or off via a switch on the right earpiece, and used without listening to anything, if silence and sleep is all you crave. Beats claims the batteries last 25 hours and I achieved about that on two recent trips.
The sound has that distinctive Beats quality - plenty of bass - although it is nowhere near as unbalanced as on their standard headphones and is generally excellent.
They're not cheap, but the sound is almost on a par with Bose's offerings, and for my money, the hardware is better put together and looks nicer.
The in-line remote control offered the only disappointment, as although perfectly well made and serviceable, it is cast in plastic and just not as nice as the headphones.
Such a minor gripe would not stop Beats Executive headphones becoming an essential part of my travel kit, however.

iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 details emerge online

Rumours that Apple will debut at least two new smartphones this year gathered pace today, after a Chinese source claimed to have seen the forthcoming devices.Posting on micro blogging service, Sina Tech, Old Yao claims his friend at one of Apple’s Chinese parts suppliers has laid eyes on the new edition of the standard-sized iPhone, AKA the iPhone 5S, and the phablet-sized iPhone 6.
According to said insider, the iPhone 5S isn’t too different from the current-gen model in the looks stakes. That tallies with other recent reports suggesting that improvements that the next-generation handset brings will be largely restricted to the phone’s internals.
The iPhone 6, meanwhile, is a different matter and is purportedly longer – Yao claims it packs a five-inch screen - and wider than the iPhone 5, but is also thinner.
Although that’s not a terribly concrete description, it’s sure to add to the clamour of tech voices forecasting that Apple’s 2013 product portfolio will include a tablet-smartphone hybrid aimed at seeing off the challenge from the Samsung’s Note range.
Still, before you get too excited, it’s worth remembering that we can’t set too much store in Old Yao’s claims, given that it’s been hard to verify what kind of industry credentials he’s got. If indeed, he’s got any at all.
Either way, given the Samsung Galaxy Note and Note 2’s huge sales, it seems likely that demand for an Apple phablet would be huge. And with a putative spec sheet that takes in a super HD camera, 128GB of storage and Near Field Communications, it’s not hard to see why.

Korean researchers develop flexible battery

Researchers in South Korea have developed a flexible battery that could be a step towards the development of flexible smartphones. The team, from the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, say they have developed a "fluid-like" polymer electrolyte that is more flexible than a traditional battery.
The new system is, according to the researchers, more stable than conventional batteries.
A spokesman for the Korean science ministry told the Korean Joongang Daily: "Conventional lithium-ion batteries that use liquefied electrolytes had safety problems as the film that separates the electrolytes may melt under heat, in which case the positive and negative elements may come in contact, causing an explosion."
Last week, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Samsung showed off a prototype for a flexible smartphone, which it calls Youm.
On stage at CES the prototype phone was shown being flexed and bent without any conspicuous colour distortion, with other pre-recorded demonstrations shown on film.Corning, the maker of Gorilla Glass, which is widely used across mobile phones, is also working on a flexible glass product called Willow.
It is likely to be available in time for use on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the forthcoming iPhone, but will not offer the flexibility of plastic. Subsequent mobile phone releases, therefore, may not use as much glass and may instead move to flexible displays.

LulzSec hacker jailed for Sony Pictures attack

A hacker who was involved in an attack by the LulzSec group on Sony Pictures Entertainment was sentenced in Los Angeles to a year in prison.Cody Kretsinger, 25, who used the online moniker "Recursion," pleaded guilty in April 2012 to one count each of conspiracy and unauthorized impairment of a protected computer. On Thursday he was jailed by a federal judge and also ordered s to perform 1,000 hours of community service after his release.
Kretsinger was a member of LulzSec, an offshoot of the international hacking group Anonymous, that took credit for a string of attacks in spring 2011 on government and private sector websites.
During last year's plea hearing, he told a federal judge that he gained access to the Sony Pictures website and gave the information he found there to other members of LulzSec, who posted it on the group's website and Twitter.
Prosecutors said Kretsinger and other LulzSec hackers ultimately caused the unit of Sony Corp more than $600,000 in damage.Kretsinger's plea came a month after court documents revealed that Anonymous leader "Sabu," whose real name is Hector Xavier Monsegur, had pleaded guilty to hacking-related charges and provided the FBI with information on fellow hackers.
Prosecutors have declined to say if Kretsinger was also cooperating with authorities in exchange for leniency.
Anonymous and its offshoots, including LulzSec and AntiSec, focused initially on fighting attempts at Internet regulation and the blocking of free illegal downloads, but have since taken on other targets including Scientology and the global banking system.
Anonymous, and LulzSec in particular, grabbed the spotlight in late 2010 when they launched what they called the "first cyber war" in retaliation for attempts to shut down the Wikileaks website.
Last week a 26-year-old British man pleaded guilty in that country to carrying out cyber attacks on targets including Sony and Nintendo as part of LulzSec while using the online persona of a 16-year-old girl named Kayla.

WhatsApp grows bigger than Twitter.

WhatsApp, the almost free messaging app, now has more users than Twitter and carries more messages than Facebook, according to its chief executive. The service has attracted more monthly users than the 200 million claimed by Twitter, Jan Koum told a technology conference on Tuesday. He did not release an exact figure, however. He also said WhatsApp carries as many as 20 billion messages per day, double Facebook’s daily message traffic.Although WhatsApp is seen as more of an internet-based threat to text messaging than as a competitior to social networks, the figures represent major milestones for a service that was only introduced in 2009.Koum said WhatsApp, based in Silicon Valley, will not follow Facebook and Twitter in carrying advertising, however. The app charges a 99-cent annual subscription on Android and other smartphone

The world's most expensive smartphone: British designer creates $15 million iPhone 5.

The diamond-encrusted smartphone is made from solid gold and sapphire glass. British designer Stuart Hughes was commissioned to create the $15 million iPhone 5, called the Black Diamond.
The phone, which underneath its special shell, is no different from any iPhone in terms of hardware components, was commissioned by an unnamed Chinese businessman as his regular day-to-day handset. Called the Black Diamond because it features a 24-ct black diamond where the home key should be; it also has a solid gold chassis. If that wasn't enough, it is decorated with what Hughes says are 600 flawless white diamonds set in gold on the back panel, while the Apple logo, now in solid gold takes on a three-dimensional quality and has also been enhanced by the addition of a further 53 diamonds. One other notable difference, and one that could soon become a reality on all smartphones, is the use of sapphire glass rather than the standard Gorilla Glass to cover the iPhone's display. Sapphire glass is used to create body armor and only a diamond is stronger or more resistant. However, at current prices, a sheet of such glass costs 10 times more than Gorilla Glass.

NFC?

NFC is the short form for Near Field Communication. what is nfc all about?
Near field communication, abbreviated NFC, is a form of contactless communication between devices like smartphones or tablets. Contactless communication allows a user to wave the smartphone over a NFC compatible device to send information without needing to touch the devices together or go through multiple steps setting up a connection. Fast and convenient, NFC technology is popular in parts of Europe and Asia, and is quickly spreading throughout the United States.
Near field communication maintains interoperability between different wireless communication methods like Bluetooth and other NFC standards including FeliCa -- popular in Japan -- through the NFC Forum. Founded in 2004 by Sony, Nokia, and Philips, the forum enforces strict standards that manufacturers must meet when designing NFC compatible devices. This ensures that NFC is secure and remains easy-to-use with different versions of the technology. Compatibility is the key to the growth of NFC as a popular payment and data communication method. It must be able to communicate with other wireless technologies and be able to interact with different types of NFC transmissions.
How does it work?
The technology behind NFC allows a device, known as a reader, interrogator, or active device, to create a radio frequency current that communicates with another NFC compatible device or a small NFC tag holding the information the reader wants. Passive devices, such as the NFC tag in smart posters, store information and communicate with the reader but do not actively read other devices. Peer-to-peer communication through two active devices is also a possibility with NFC. This allows both devices to send and receive information.

Both businesses and individuals benefit from near field communication technology. By integrating credit cards, subway tickets, and paper coupons all into one device, a customer can board a train, pay for groceries, redeem coupons or store loyalty points, and even exchange contact information all with the wave of a smartphone. Faster transaction times mean less waiting in line and happier customers. Fewer physical cards to carry around means the customer is less likely to lose one or have it stolen.
Who's currently in on the action with NFC technology and mobile payments? Google has launched Google Wallet that supports MasterCard PayPass, PayPal offers money transfers between smartphones, and other companies are expected to follow suit. As the technology grows, more NFC compatible smartphones will be available and more stores will offer NFC card readers for customer convenience.

Iron Man 3 video game to land on Android and iOS on April 25

Gameloft released the launch date and trailer of the upcoming Iron Man 3 official video game. Android and iOS users will be able to jump into Tony Stark’s suit on April 25.From the brief moments of gameplay included in the Iron Man 3 trailer, it becomes obvious that Gameloft’s latest superhero title will follow the endless running format. Of course, there will be a slew of obstacles, enemies, as well as weapons to properly deal with them, so the game will surely be far from boring.

Temple Run arrives on Windows Phone

Yes finally temple run on windows platform
Roughly one and a half year after the launch of the game on iOS and exactly a year later on Android, the original Temple Run is now finally on the Windows Phone platform. Or to be precise, on Windows Phone 8.The game is identical to the iOS and Android version but does not leverage the Xbox Live feature the way the iOS version uses Game Center. It’s also not what you’d expect to receive in 2013.
The original Temple Run came out back in 2011 but it’s been a while since then and they have released three more games after that, notably, Temple Run 2 a couple of months ago. Considering how long Windows Phone users had to wait for this game, it would have made sense to launch Temple Run 2 directly but now we have the old one with no sign of any of the others.
Don’t get me wrong, the original Temple Run is still a great game but I don’t see a whole lot of point in releasing an old game when a new one is out already.
In other, less depressing news, Temple Run isn’t the only game coming over to Windows Phone 8. There are also Chaos Rings, 6th Planet, Propel Man, Orcs Must Survive, Ruzzle, Fling Theory and Drift Mania Championship 2 coming over shortly. And then there is the new Gravity Guy 2, which for once, is being launched on Windows Phone before other platforms.
So things are looking up for gaming on Windows Phone. Unfortunately, it’s not happening at the rate you expect it to.
Update: Temple Run is only available for devices with at least 1GB of RAM.

OUYA to go on sale on June 4 for $99.99

The Kickstarter funded, Android-based gaming console is now in its final stage, ready to go into the hands of eager buyers. But when exactly will you be able to buy it?According to OUYA, the console will start shipping to regular customers on June 4 for $99. It will be sold through Amazon, Best Buy and other retailers. For that money, you get the console, the controller with the touchpad, an HDMI cable and batteries for the controller. Meanwhile, the Kickstarter project backers started receiving the console this month itself.
For those who don’t know, OUYA is a game console based on Android Jelly Bean operating system and runs on NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor. It’s the first of its kind device that lets you play Android games on the big screen with a controller. OUYA will have its own online store from where you can purchase games directly on the console and where all games are expected to provide a free demo so customers can try out the game before they can purchase them. As of now, there are a handful of new games being made for the console, with existing Android games such as Shadowgun and Dead Trigger also making an appearance. Hopefully, you should be able to play a lot more games in future, assuming the platform takes off.

Google announces Blink, a new open source rendering engine based on WebKit

After Samsung, it’s Google’s turn to part ways with the WebKit rendering engine. Google has announced Blink, a new rendering engine based on the existing WebKit.
The WebKit engine has been part of the Chromium project ever since the first Chrome browser was released and has also been the basis of Android’s stock browser. Now, however, Google feels the current WebKit has become too bloated, with several features such as the multi-process architecture being duplicated, since Google has its own version for them.
As such, it had apparently become essential for Google to cut ties with WebKit to reduce the complexity and cut down on the amount of code in the browser, which will improve the stability and performance. Google understands the complications brought on by the introduction of a new engine but believes that ‘having multiple rendering engines—similar to having multiple browsers—will spur innovation and over time improve the health of the entire open web ecosystem.’
It remains to be seen how the web developers react to this new engine. Blink may be standards compliant as Google claims but most sites don’t really comply with the standards themselves. The web has always optimized itself for whichever browser (and thus its rendering engine) was popular at the moment. From Trident in IE, to Gecko in Firefox to now WebKit in Chrome and Safari. This is one of the reasons companies like Opera shifted over to using WebKit to make things work more seamlessly. Now with Google (and Samsung) shifting away from WebKit, things are likely to get a bit messy.

Motorola X rumored to have Sapphire Glass screen

Motorola X will have a 4.8 inch screen, made of sapphire glass, said to be three times harder to crack than Gorilla Glass. The corners will be made with rubber bumpers and the back will be made of carbon fiber. Under the hood will be a quad-core 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and a 4,000mAh battery provides all-day power. The device will be water resistant and will launch in November, in time for the holidays. Sounds nice, but we need to take this with our proverbial grain of salt.
If there is legitimacy to this rumor, the Motorola X could certainly compete and even surpass the U.S. version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 on some levels. If this does have a Full HD panel, it will have a higher pixel density than the nearly 5 inch FHD screen on the S4 and the Motorola X would have superior silicon. As we pointed out though, this is all conjecture for now, a fun parlor game for the adults to play after the kiddies have fallen asleep.

Researchers create fiber network that operates at 99.7% speed of light, smashes speed and latency records

Researchers at the University of Southampton in England have produced optical fibers that can transfer data at 99.7% of the universe’s speed limit: The speed of light. The researchers have used these new optical fibers to transfer data at 73.7 terabits per second — roughly 10 terabytes per second, and some 1,000 times faster than today’s state-of-the-art 40-gigabit fiber optic links, and at much lower latency. The speed of light in a vacuum is 299,792,458 meters per second, or 186,282 miles per second. In any other medium, though, it’s generally a lot slower. In normal optical fibers (silica glass), light travels a full 31% slower. Light actually

1 minute on the internet???

Have you wondered how much data is transferred on the internet in one minute?, how many people are online? how many emails are sent?
well here they are: An infographic by Intel breaks down exactly what happens online in just one minute and the numbers truly boggle the mind.
In just 60 seconds, nearly 640 terabytes of IP data is transferred across the globe. Intel then breaks that number down into every day activities and recognizable websites.
A major contributor to that data, Google, will have answered (or at least tried to answer) more than two million search queries during that single, minute-long slice of time. Meanwhile, its YouTube video service will have served up roughly 1.3 million videos while simultaneously digesting about 30 hours worth of uploaded video destined for public consumption.
Also in an Internet minute, Amazon rakes in around $83,000 in sales while 20 unfortunate souls will fall prey to identify thieves.
Over six million Facebook views will have been made and 100,000 Tweets posted, but venerable old-school e-mail is still the most happening method of keeping in touch. A whopping 204 million e-mails being sent out every minute. Even though about 150 million of those are probably spam, that's still a lot of messages packed into 60 seconds.

Twitter clocks 7 with more than 200 million users

Seven years ago today, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey sent out his very first tweet which signaled the official launch of the microblogging website. Today Twitter is a global phenomenon with more than 200 million users worldwide responsible for pushing some 400 million tweets each day. To say the site has come a long way would be the understatement of the year.
The social networking site has had countless milestones over the past seven years. The idea for the hashtag came about in 2007 courtesy of Chris Messina and was first used in a high-profile instance by California resident Nate Ritter to chronicle his frequent posts about the October 2007 wildfires in San Diego County. We also witness the first retweet that same year.Oprah Winfrey famously joined the site in 2009 and just a year later, Mike Massimino sent the first ever tweet from space. In 2010, the World Cup helped to unite a global audience and in 2011, the service was instrumental during the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami that slammed into Japan. Just last year, Twitter was a driving force behind the summer Olympic games in London, the Grammys and even President Barack Obama’s re-election.
In a post on the company’s blog celebrating the occasion, editorial director Karen Wickre said the site has become a true global town square – a public place to hear the latest news, exchange ideas and connect with people in real time. It’s where you come to connect with the world at large.

How to Increase Download Speed

Tips on how to increase you download speeds just a little more than usual
-1 Check with your Internet service provider about Internet connection options. The speed of your Internet connection is the most significant variable to your download speed. If you have dial-up Internet access, consider upgrading to a Direct Service Line (DSL) or a cable connection. Even if you already have cable, your Internet service provider may have faster cable services available.
-2 Understand a fast connection. Connection speed is measured by the amount of data that can be transferred per second, usually kilobits per second (Kbps) or megabits per second (Mbps). There are 1024 kilobits in one megabit. Most dial-up connections are 56 Kbps, while cable can be as fast as 20 Mbps. When you contact your Internet service provider, they should be able to tell you the speed of their connections.
-3 Close any open programs you do no need when downloading. This will free up your computer's resources to better handle the data transfer. If possible, have your computer download the files you need while you are away from the computer.
-4 Prioritize your downloads. Download only the files you really want first and start other downloads later. The more files you download simultaneously, the slower the files download.
-5 Try downloads at different times of the day. The more people who are downloading the same file, the slower the file downloads for everyone. If you are experiencing a slow download, try it at a different time of day when fewer people might be trying to download the same file.
-6 Install Download Accelerator. Download Accelerator is a program that optimizes your computer's download capabilities. It not only increases the speed of your downloads, it helps you manage them. The company said that the high quality screen and fast processor will make the tablet ideal for use at home, whether as a stand-alone computer or as a second screen while watching television.
“The Xperia Tab is intended to restore Sony’s core values in the minds of consumers rather than change the tablet market status quo. Mr Cripps added: “The Xperia Tab may prove to be a key product in Sony’s rebirth.”

Samsung's game controller looks like xbox controller

The Samsung Bluetooth games controller, which is just a prototype at this point, clips-on to the Galaxy S4, allowing people to play games without using the touchscreen.
But the design of the controller raised some eyebrows because of its resemblance to Microsoft's Xbox 360 controller.Like Microsoft's device, Samsung's controller has two analogue joysticks, one in the top left and one in the bottom right. The D-Pad, in the bottom left, is marked by a cross with curved edges, just like the Xbox 360 version.
The four face buttons are set out in a diamond shape and have the same colours, in the same positions as the Xbox 360 controller. The buttons also have the same letters so both controllers feature a blue X button on the left, for example.
The similarities did not go unnoticed. One twitter user wrote: "You’d think Samsung could have at least been bothered to change the color of the buttons, right?"
Samsung has been embroiled in a series of lawsuits across the world with rival Apple. The iPhone maker has claimed that Samsung has "slavishly copied" its designs, which Samsung has responded with counter-claims that Apple has infringed on its patents.
Samsung has yet to respond to a request for a comment on the new controller's similarity to the Microsoft device.

God of War : Ascension review

Formats: PlayStation 3
Developer: Santa Monica Studio
Publisher: Sony
Age rating: PEGI 18
Released: 15 March 2013

At a time of increasing complexity in interactive storytelling and a broadening of the kind of experiences we expect games to deliver, God Of War – and it’s truck-throated protagonist in particular – are like an old-fashioned punch to the windpipe. Kratos the furious demi-god, a man defined by violence and psychologically jammed in that moment of aggressive self-belief right before a post-pub headbutt, is a wilfully unpleasant protagonist indistinguishable, dramatically speaking, from controlling a tightly balled fist through ancient Greece. It goes without saying that it’s great to have him back.
God Of War: Ascension is a prequel, hardly surprising if you consider that by the end of the God Of War III Kratos had skewered the gods of Olympus in turn like a rack of mythic barbeque ribs. “Who will he kill now?” was the obvious question, the answer now revealed to be “The past”. Ascension, then, takes place during Kratos’ service to the god of war, Ares, which is more or less irrelevant except it means that Kratos already has his defining chain weapon, the Blades of Chaos.
This is important because it’s the Blades more even than Kratos’ swaggering urge to invite the world to take it outside that define God Of War’s slick, distinctive combat. This is, sensibly, unchanged at least on the level of being able to swing firey chains about in thumping, destructive arcs. It still has the swishing quickness, the easy combos, and that sense of unsettling power that playing as a man who has the ashen remains of his murdered family bonded to his skin on a cellular level really should have.
Beneath this surface familiarity there are changes, essentially of the sort that any series instalment has to deliver to justify being a game at all. Kratos now has a whipped grapple that fixes enemies in place, or slings them skittling into crowds, or if they’re weakened triggers rending finishing moves that are as gratuitous as they are characteristically God Of War. He can also pick up enemy weapons – swords, spears, swing-for-the-bleachers hammers – that can be integrated with his existing combo sets, which adds variety, power and potentially range. And, where God Of War III had Kratos inheriting different weapons from the Olympians he forcibly ushered to heaven, here his Blades are imbued with different elemental powers – ice, electricity, and an ability to summon a big hand from the underworld (admittedly not an element at all) – which can be switched mid-fight but have less of a impact on the shape of battles.
These relatively underwhelming tweaks mean that the biggest change to the character of Ascension’s combat comes from the fact it’s now more dominated by brutal, semi-automated finishing sequences than before. Truly giant boss battles – the technically wowing kind that reduce Kratos to a pale speck meting out flesh-busting punishment in miniature while a rock-skinned Titan grinds hugely in the foreground – are few are far between, but mini-bosses are the new order of the day. Chimera of various kinds – elephant-men, snake-women, actual chimera, goats with swords – arrive regularly and demand bespoke gutting, skull-stoving and otherwise dismembering, often imaginatively using part of themselves. The effect is spectacular but also, eventually, flattening, each climax depending on an essentially identical stab-and-dodge mechanic so that soon they’re not really climaxes at all, and the only hook is seeing how the monsters are going to be turned inside out.
More successful in varying the pace are the game’s puzzles – never a prominent feature, but then Kratos has always seemed as likely to eat a crossword as patiently solve one – and the improved climbing. Kratos’ ledge-holding and grapple-swinging has been expanded so that it feels like a slightly stiffer Uncharted, a backhanded compliment that really is a compliment, especially when these swing-and-leap sections are strung together with Kratos’ new surface-surfing ability for intense, extended, one-slip-means-death traversal.
While these sequences are full of momentum and purposeful direction, Ascension’s biggest problem is that its story lacks either. The through-line of God Of War is that the mortal Kratos doesn’t just defy the gods but screams and stabs them until he gets his way. In each of the previous full-sized games Kratos is set in fatal opposition to a deity, the end goal being to give them a godly offing. Ascension is less direct and consequently less compelling,
No doubt the prequel setting is the issue, restricting the game to a fixed final destination, but the bigger question is: why? Why not call this God Of War IV and re-alive everybody so they can be killed again with better graphics? Presumably the answer is that a full sequel is being saved for PS4, but that could just as easily have been God Of War V. It’s not as though they are running short of numbers, even old-fashioned Roman ones.
One area in which Ascension goes further than any of its predecessors is online multiplayer. As far as possible this takes the third-person combat from the single-player game and sets it in a competitive context, giving us an arena brawler with a Greek flavour and upgradable hats. Significant tweaking has been done to refit the combat for balanced player-on-player bouts – where Kratos is a grunting priority-hog, much of his perceived power coming from the relative speed and strength of his attacks, to make multiplayer feasible a new system of parries and unblockable specials has been devised.
The result is that, in one-on-one fights especially, the system works, manifesting as a dance of dodges and tactfully unleashed specials that feels determined by skill rather than hack-slashing. That is, until you’re outnumbered, at which point any fight feels like a foregone, hail-of-blows conclusion, although game types that favour strategy over straightforward brawling – capture the flag, hold the bases – make this less of an issue.
This leaves Ascension as a highly-accomplished if not completely fulfilling rampage. There’s a base level of quality that hasn’t slipped from the excellent God Of War III – this looks even better, puts things onscreen that are, somehow, even bigger. But this technical muscle isn’t given the best stage on which to oil and flex, thanks to a story that simply idles the roaring engine of death that is Kratos, and keeps the series ticking over until the next, more substantial step forward.

lg-tab book

LG might not have too much luck in the world of tablets or notebooks, but it seems that they intend to do something of the situation and make good of it. LG Electronics has just announced that they will be showing off their own take on a tablet-notebook hybrid device at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) which is happening in Barcelona, Spain. Simply known as the LG Tab-Book, it will come equipped with Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in order to deliver a high speed Internet experience, enabling users to hook up to the Internet regardless of where they are. Of course, this is all theoretical, since we do know that a whole lot of its connectivity depends on the area of coverage.
The LG Tab-Book is a beauty to behold for sure, where it boasts of a hidden slide-out physical keyboard, making it a whole lot more functional compared to a conventional tablet, delivering greater levels of productivity when it comes to creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations, especially when you are on the move.
Microsoft’s Windows 8 is the operating system of choice for the LG Tab-Book, and it will be powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, sporting a precise 5-point multi-touch screen and a superb slide-out keyboard which helps differentiate it from other hybrids. Press the Auto-Sliding button and the keyboard will magically emerge from behind the screen for instant touch typing action.
Your eyes will also be most pleased with the Tab-Book’s In-Plane Switching (IPS) display, where it is said to deliver a premium picture with lifelike color expression and a wide 178-degree viewing angle.

Playstation 4 annouced

The next cycle of home console gaming (the high end side of things, of course, as Nintendo had already rolled out their Nintendo Wii U from last year onwards which frankly, was rather disappointing in terms of specifications as well as performance, once again leaning on the strength of Nintendo’s library and relatively low price point to pull it through the next round of next-gen console gaming) is set to arrive, with Sony throwing down the gauntlet with an announcement of their PlayStation 4, or PS4 for short. The PS3 has aged gracefully over the past few years of course, but it is time for the old to go, and the new to come. According to Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, “The living room is no longer the center of the PlayStation universe, the gamer is. We believe that PlayStation 4 represents a shift from thinking of a box or console.”PlayStation 4′s lead system architect Mark Cerny has mentioned that Sony, being a company that does not rest on their laurels, have already begun to work on the PS4 shortly after the release of the PlayStation 3, with the ultimate purpose of creating a console for developers, and by developers. You will find a completely updated user interface in addition to a bunch of new features that range from an updated controller to social features which cannot be found on other consoles – or at least, Sony hopes so.There will be a new and updated DualShock 4 controller, and the PS4 will carry an X86 processor, packed with an enhanced PC GPU, and 8GB of high-speed unified memory. The new DualShock 4 controller sports a touchpad (hmmm, a page from Nintendo’s book?), a share button, and a headphone jack. There is also a light bar located on the back of the controller that will help you identify different players, while a 3D camera on the console is capable of tracking controllers connected to the console.
When can you pick up a PS4? Sony cited a “holiday 2013″ date, so now would be a good time to start saving up for one when the time arrives.
